    Figure Skating Injury

I use to be a semi-professional figure skater and competed for many years. I had a really nasty fall that ended up placing me in physical therapy for almost 6 months. It was in the care that I received that I was inspired to explore jobs in the medical field.
  • High School Physical Therapy Internship

My senior year of high school we were required to apply for an internship. Naturally, the care I received during my my back injury was in the back of my mind and I decided to explore physical therapy. This was the first time I was exposed to working in a hospital setting and I loved it.

    Attended APU

I moved across the world (from Italy to California) to go to college and study Kinesiology with the intent of pursuing physical therapy. Here I was able to be more exposed to the medical world and found out I LOVED anatomy and kinesiology. I for sure thought physical therapy was the route for me, especially after doing many more hours of volunteer work in the PT clinic. I discovered I really enjoyed taking care of others.

Worked As A Trainer at EOS Fitness

It was during this time that I met a client at the gym who was a physical therapy and she told me that I would be wasting my time going into physical therapy. She told me the hours are not kind and the pay is not worth it for the amount of school you do. My whole world shattered hearing this because this is what I had been working towards all this time. It was the first time I started contemplating other careers besides physical therapy aka when nursing came to mind.

Graduated with my B.S. Applied Exercise Science

This was a big life event for me as I was the first in my family to graduate from college. Next step = apply to physical therapy schools.
  • Got Hired at EOS Fitness

    Got Hired at EOS Fitness

I decided I wanted to take some time off of school since I had been taking college classes since my senior year of high school. I was burnt out. I wanted to save some money and let my mind relax before starting to study for the GRE (entrance exam for PT school).
  • Took The GRE...And Failed.

I am not a great standardized test taker, especially when the tests have nothing to do with the actual subject I am going for (in this case, physical therapy). I spent countless hours memorizing vocabulary words and reviewing math, and missed the minimum passing score by 7 points. This paired with the conversation that happened earlier on with a client that discouraged me from doing physical therapy was my determining factor that physical therapy was not going to be what I wanted to pursue.
  • Unusual Client Feedback

While working at the gym, I met a client who was a physical therapist and she told me that I would be wasting my time going into physical therapy. She told me the hours are not kind and the pay is not worth it for the amount of school you do. My whole world shattered hearing this because this is what I had been working towards all this time. • Nonno Died :(

My grandfather was a huge figure in my life. One of the things he always was big on was education. He always said I was going to become a doctor. His death reignited the idea to work in the medical field.

    Found Out I Was Pregnant

Very unexpected life changing event. Gave me more motivation to do something more with my life. Decided to begin looking at nursing programs and their requirements.

    Unexpected Pregnancy #2

The 1% that contraception don't work against -- that is my middle child, Paxton. This made me even more motivated to finish my nursing school journey.
  • Zia Died

    Zia Died

My god mom who is also my aunt died. She was like a mom for me, so this was extremely challenging for me to go through, especially as I was finishing up nursing pre-reqs. I flew out to Italy to see her one last time a week before she passed and it was there that I realized as I watched nurses care for her I wanted to be a nurse more than ever.
  • Covid Vax Mandate

This put a total damper/pause in my nursing journey. I did not agree with these mandates and was also pregnant at the time, so I decided I would pause my journey until I found a school that respected my autonomy. I contacted an endless amount of school and they all required the vaccine. I was so incredibly bummer and entered a season of depression after this because I felt like all my hard work went to waste.

  • New Year, New Career?

Decided I was going to go all in on my own personal training business. If nursing school wasn't meant to be, I needed to make something happen. I decided to invest in a business mentor to help my business grow.

    Pregnancy #3

We decided to add our final addition in our family by trying for a baby girl and got pregnant. It was around this time that my mom suggested that I explore nursing again. I was hesitant because I didn't want to be disappointed again since I had reached out to so many schools prior and they all had said no....but then UNC got back to me and told me that they respect student bodily autonomy. I was elated.
  • Ellie's Birth Day

    Ellie's Birth Day

Had this child in 20 minutes. Literally. I was known at the hospital for going from 3cm to 10cm in 20 minutes for the rest of my stay. Needless to say, they would not allow me to get the epidural and my soul exited my body during this birth, but I got a beautiful baby girl out of it and that is all that matters. This is where I realized I might want to go into labor and delivery when I eventually become a nurse.
