I have used the blog to document the production of our trailer for our film ‘The Other Side’. From beginning to end I have documented our group meetings, filming sessions and editing sessions. Not only has this helped us as a group to better communicate but it has also helped us to plan our work and to keep on track of targets.

I have used Microsoft Word a lot throughout my work. I believe it is a very easy to use program and easy to view. The spell check tool also allows me to check my grammar before posting something onto the blog, something of which does not happen on the blog. Plus whenever I wanted someone to view something such as a poster I have been analysing I can simply print screen it and save it on Photoshop as a JEPG and it is still of a very high quality to view on Photoshop.
  • Research and Planning 4

When it came to designing characters to be storyboarded for our trailer I used the program Paint. This is a fairly basic program I had used in the past and was comfortable with. I was able to create simple cartoon styled characters that resembled the characters in the film and duplicate them multiple times throughout the storyboard.
  • Research and Planning 5

When it came to using background images for the characters in the storyboard I found the best website to use was Google Street View. As a group we had a basic idea of where to shoot various scenes of our trailer e.g. London Road etc. So to give my group members an idea of what each scene might look like, I screen grabbed images of London road and then copied the character onto the image.

Furthermore, I also used Google Images to find images for the pictures in my storyboard. For example, when I needed an interior shot of our protagonist Charles in his fancy apartment, I would type in on Google Images fancy apartment interior, and then copy the character onto this image.
  • Research and Planning 2

I have used the website Timetoast to create my timeline of Post-Apocalyptic films. This is a task I simply would not have been able to do as effectively as on this website. Timetoast is clear and easy to use, especially for some else viewing my work.
  • Research and Planning 7

Websites such as ‘YouTube’ were especially important during the planning stages of our film. To get inspiration we would type the trailers of movies that we feel are of a similar genre to our own, such as The Pursuit of Happiness and look at the conventions and how the characters are portrayed.
  • Research and Planning

Although YouTube was perhaps the most helpful website for me in terms of looking at the trailers of other movies I found it was somewhat limiting. The film trailer we were making is centred on the theme of homelessness. This is definitely not a common theme in movies and unless you know exactly what you’re looking for on YouTube it can be tricky to find things. The website ‘IMDb’ was very useful for finding a wider range of trailers and new movies to which I knew nothing about.
  • Research and Planning

The website ‘Ebay’ was very useful to me when it came to costume and props. Most the characters’ costume I had in my house e.g. suit jackets, shirts, woolly hats etc. But as a group we had agreed that Charles’ be portrayed as an alcoholic (although this is never a crucial part of the film). But I wanted this character trait to be subtle, so Ben came up with the idea of giving him a hip flask. So since I did not have much money to spend I searched Ebay for a hipflask and found one for just £3.

We used the DSLR Camera to record all of our footage when it came to filming. We also used a tripod and a microphone. This equipment allowed us to get good clear and high definition footage. The shots we obtained successfully reflect the Social Realism genre in a way that makes our product more successful.
  • Production 2

When it came to editing our footage we used Adobe Premier on a Macintosh computer. This program was easy to use and we were able to add a variety of effects and transitions to make our film trailer look like that of the social realsim genre.
  • Production 3

Our trailer needed a voiceover. So we recorded our non-diegetic sound voice over using a voice over sound kit. What this consisted of was a heated conversation with Charles (Ben) and his dad (Rob). Then we had another voiceover of Charles talking about being privileged. We felt it was important to put a voiceover in our trailer to give the viewer a better idea as to what our film is about.
  • Production 4

When it came to putting a soundtrack over our trailer it was particularly important that we did not use copyrighted music. So we used the website 'Incomputech' to gather a range of different soundtracks we felt would be appropriate for our trailer. We soon settled on a piece we felt appropriately highlighted the tone of our film and the genre.
  • Production 5

When it came to producing the ancillary products (the poster and magazine cover) I used the program Photoshop. Photoshop was the perfect tool to create something that looked good and proffessional. We also used it to successfully promote our brand image, being our title and font.
  • Evaluation 1

When it came to presenting my evaluation questions I most commonly used the program Microsoft Powerpoint. Powerpoint is easy to use and even easier to view.
  • Evaluation 2

For my Evaluation question 4 I am using the website Timetoast. In order to be successful I had to clearly show a timeline of the different technologies I have used throughout this project.
