    How Cuba became communist

    Fidel Castro organized guerrilla armys during the 1950's and failed all the time until 1959 when his guerrilla army took out cuban dicator Sabastian. This was Cuba's new transformation and as soon as Fidel Castro came to power he needed some allies. The Soviets saw this as a Trumph card and became allies with Cuba.

    Eastern Europe Tranforms

    Throughout these decades many of eastern european countries have been resisting being ruled by the Soviets and have slowly become a free nation. Some of these nations did it with reforms like Hungary. Also as Soviets got weaker the eastern europeans spoke up about being ruled by Soviets. Poland did something that shattered Soviet satellites and in the 80's a guy named Lech Walesa made a labor union called Solidarity and this got many peoples attention. By late 1980's many nations gained Freedom.

    Korean War (part 1)

    Korea was once a whole but the people had disagreements had divided the country on the 38th parallel.The leader of North Korea (Kim Il Sung) attacked South Korea because Kim Il Sung wanted to make Korea whole again. The UN got inovled and helped out South Korea but really stop North Korea army until they got to the port city of Pusan. Then South Korea fights back and we push North Korea all the way back to the Yalu River.

    Korean War, Stalemate (part 2)

    During early 1951 China hears that North Korea is being taken over by South Korea and then they send their troops and supplies to help North Korea. North Korea then pushes back South Korea to the 37th Parallel. Two years later in 1953 the UN pushes North Korea back originally to the 38th parallel and a ceasefire was ordered and both Koreas signed an Armistice to end the war.

    Vietnam War

    This war started because South Vietnam wasn't coroperating with North Vietnam in the elections because they knew that the people were going to side with Ho Chi Minh and also that it would do a domino effect to the rest of the Asia. Ho Chi Minh was the leader of the Northern Vietnam but he was actually a Nationalist. Also people in south Vietnam who sided with communism were called Viet Congs. By 1973 United States left the war because of lack of encoragment in the war.

    In 1955 the allies formed another alliance system called southeast-Asia treaty organization. Which included US, Britain, France, Australia, Pakistan, Thailand, New Zeland, Philippines. Also the Central Treaty Organization called CENTO and consisted of Britain, Turkey, Iran, and Pakistan

    Warsaw Pact

    Russia, Poland, and a bunch of other Eastern european countries to promote communism and spread it all across Europe. Also Russia kept large amounts of troops in other communist countries to prevent riots and people leaving the country.

    Great Leap Forward

    This Program was supposed to put China ahead of the game in helping rebuild China. This plan was about family farms joining together in a commun and farm together and to use their backyards as blacksmiths shops but instead of making tools or weapons from smelting they just made lumps of iron. This plan did work do a little bit but then it just spiraled down into complete disaster because they used their farm tools for the iron lumps they were making. This sent China backwards in rebuilding China

    Berlin Wall

    The Berlin wall was built in Berlin to seperate the eastern communist side of Berlin from western Berlin because people from the east side that had crappy lives just walked to the west side of Berlin. So then thousands of people left eastern Berlin because it was easy to escape.

    Cuban Missile Crisis

    When Castro became communist he started making missiles because of United States trying to take down Castro he needed a sorta defence system to tell America to back off. So then Russia sent ships of nuclear warheads to Cuba to finish their missiles. America found out about it and set up a blockade around Cuba so that no one can pass. This lasted for almost a month and the soviets backed off and returned home.

    In 1963 the UN made a nuclear test ban treaty to ban all testing of nuclear wepon in the atmosphere.

    Viet Congs attack
    North Vietnam attack U.S. Navy destroyer Maddox and almost sunk the ship. Several days later the news gets to congress and then they pass the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution which was that they could stop any further aggression from Vietnam

    Cultural Revolution

    China's youth are given the "little red books" by Mao and are told by Mao to expericence revolution firsthand as his generation did. They youth got a nickname when they were given the books and they were called the Red Guards. So then you got these Red guards going around China killing innocent people were thought were the bourgeois. But soon after that Mao realized that this might start another civil war, so then he sent his army to restore order

    Communist guerrillas attacked all of south Vietnam cities. This was a turning point in the war because america was realizing that their was no point in being in this war.

    Soviet Russia in the Bear Trap (part 1)

    The Soviets went to war against Afghanistan because there was a government in Afghan who supported communism but the people turned it down because it went against their religion and traditions. So then the Soviets wasted billions of dollars and sent troops after troops into Afghan. The Soviets were fighting the Mujahedin or "Holy Warriors" and they weren't that good because of technology. So then the United States gets involved because were badass like that and we trained the Mujahedin to fight

    and we gave them supplies and guns. Mostly throughout the war we watched on the side line while the Mujahedin were kicking butt. Another thing the U.S. did to help out Afghan was we also taught them how to use a stinger missile.

    The Fall of Soviet Russia!

    When Mikhail Gorbachev came to office in 1985 he wanted to make reforms because of the Soviet economy being in bad shape. He called for glasnost, which is people discussing the problems in ones country and he also wanted to do perestroika so that they could redo the government and their economy. However this backfires on him because of the reforms that he made and pulling their troops out of Afgan, people in other countries controlled by the Soviets start turning or revolting on them.
