Edgar Allen Poe was born January 19, 1809 in Boston, Massachusetts. He was the son of actors Elizabeth Arnold Hopkins and David Poe.

Poe attended the University of Virginia in Richmond. He studied latin and poetry.

Poe's first publication was printed. It appeared in the Baltimore North American. His work was called "Dreams"- Oh! That my young life were a dream.

Poe died (cause of death unknown but there are many theories), and was buried on October 7, 1849. he was buried unceremoniously in an umarked grave in old Westminster Burying Ground of Baltimore. Now there stands a stone with a carving of a raven marking the spot of his eternal resting place.
