Born in Boston Massachustets to Elizabeth Arnold Hopkins and David Poe. He had a brother named William and a sister, Rosalie.

After the death of his parents in 1810 and 1811 Poe is taken in by Frances and John Allen and moves with them to Richmond, Virginia and attends school in Chelsea.

Poe studied Latin and poetry, he enjoyed to swin and act while attending.

"Dreams" appearred in the Baltimore North American, and Po's first book was published at his own expense. It was called Tamerlane and Other Poems.

Poe's foster mother dies and as a last wish to her, he enrolls in West Point where he remains for a year. Second book is publishd, Al Aaraaf, Tamerlane and Minor Poems.

The same year "Poems" is published Poe moves in with his aunt, Maria Clemm in Baltimore.

Poe becomes editor and contributor of Southern Literary Messenger.

Poe marries his cousin, Virginia Clemm and moves to New York City.

Virginia dies of tuberculosis and Poe turns to alcohol as a way of dealing.

The cause of Poe's death is not certain. Some say he died from all the alcohol, others say various diseases. Most say he was found unconcious in the street and died shortly after being admitted to Washington College Hospital.
