    Thomas Khun has been said to be is one of the most influential philosophers of science of the 20th century, if not ever. Thomas Kuhn inaugurated a new philosophy of science and with his contributions to his philosophy of science broke several key positivist doctrines. In 1943, Khun graduated from Harvard summa cum laude and later on received his masters degree in physics in 1946, followed by his doctorate in 1949.

    The Copernican Revolution, Kuhn's first book, studied the development of heliocentric theory of the solar system during the Renaissance. According to Kuhn, this revolution was not only one in astronomy but also a revolution in philosophy. "Kuhn relates how an astronomer's solution to an apparently technical problem fundamentally altered men's attitude to the basic problem's of everyday life."

    In 1962, Khun released The Structure of Scientific Revolutions which is one of the most cited academic books of all times. In his book he "argued that scientific research and thought are defined by “paradigms,” or conceptual world-views, that consist of formal theories, classic experiments, and trusted methods."

  • The Essential Tension (1977)

    Through Khun's books which described his concept of paradigm shifts and revolutionized the philosophy and history of science was then extended to economics, business management, sociology, and political science. He then began his work of essays; The Essential Tension and Black-Body Theory and the Quantum Discontinuity (1978). These essays "major purpose is to illuminate, explain, modify, and defend the theses presented in the book."
