On September 17, 1939. Russia's Soviet Union invaded Poland from the east sixteen days after Germany invaded Poland. The Soviet Union insisted that Poland and Romania give Soviet troops transit rights through their territory as part of a collective securety agreement. But as soon as that agreement was ruptered, the Soviets invaded rather than protected.
