    In 1820 a fight broke out between North and South about which states should be slave states. This raised tensions between the North and South Leading up to the civil war. This also was the beginning of the morality issues with slavery.

    The civil war was between the North and South. The North believed that slavery should not be allowed, while the South wanted to keep slavery in order to fund their plantations. The South also felt unrepresented in the presidential election causing them to attack and start a war where brother was fighting brother over the idea of Slavery.

    Reconstruction was the rebuilding of the southern states. The government sought to help give more freedom to African Americans by proposing new ideas in Congress, first to pass was the 13 and 14th.

    The civil war ended with a Northern victory. Slavery was abolished and the South started a reconstruction of the millions of dollars in destruction. President Abraham Lincoln started what was known as the Reconstruction era before he was shot days after the war ended.

    Idea of the 15th amendment

    U.S. Grant came up with the idea of the 15th amendment to help African Americans obtain all the freedoms and liberties that a normal Caucasian male would have. He wanted to give African Americans the right to vote so he proposed it to Congress.

    On February 26th 1869 the 15th amendment was passed through congress with a 2/3 vote, which then it was passed to the president and on to State Legislative, which ratified the amendment into the constitution on February 3rd 1870.

    The Jim Crow laws were laws placed in order to segregate African Americans in the south. They created a barrier and fear in society of African Americans overstepping onto White privilege things. Things like water fountains, bars and schools were all different. This made it hard for African Americans to have freedom in society even after they were allowed to vote.

    Martin Luther King Jr. was a idolized African American activist who fought long and hard for Civil rights. He was extremely against segregation and found it to be inhumane and morally unethical. He practiced peaceful protest and gave many speeches speaking out on the subject of racism.

    Civil Rights Act of 1957

    Civil Rights act of 1957 was signed by President Eisenhower on September 9, 1957. This allowed for the prosecuting of anyone who tried to prevent someone from voting. The law also created a commission to investigate voting fraud.

    Civil Rights Act of 1964

    The Civil Rights Act of 1964 created a world without segregation. This was the first time American Americans could vote without the fear or retaliation. This created the world we know today with no segregation and less racism.
