  • Dewey and Harriet start a new private experimental school at the University of Chicago

    In 1894, John Dewey and his wife Harriet started a new school at the University of Chicago in which would test the current educational system's functionality by testing new educational theories. John Dewey believed some students were better learners by doing the task at hand, rather than just executed in a normal every day dull classroom setting. Dewey's theories on education reached around the world and later became a member of numerous educational organizations.

    The New School for Social Research was created in 1919 for adult education by John Dewey and a group of scholars that included economist Thorstein Veblen, and historian Charles A. Beard.
