    The pope called a cold war a series of holy wars in the East to take back the holy land from the Muslims.

    Commercial Revolution

    Medieval Europe was once a farming economy but in 1200 CE trade caused a big shift that began dominance of the merchant class. The merchant class was able to grow because trade brought new people searching for new goods. This caused merchants the opportunity to open inns, profit off of trade, and grow into a larger social class.

    Marco Polo's birth

    Marco Polo was born in 1254 AD to a family of merchants. At 17 years old he went on his first journey and his dad's second journey. He journeyed through China facing hazardous roads.

    Polo's Journey Home

    In 1293 the Polo's began their journey home on a ship returning with all sorts of goods. The Polo's left with hundreds of passengers and sailors. The crew died due to storms and diseases, by the time they got home only 18 members survived, including Marco and Marco Polo's family.

    Marco Polo Captured

    In 1298 Marco Polo captained a ship but things got out of hand and Marco Polo was captured. Polo was captured as a prisoner of war, while imprisoned he met a writer who helped him start his book. After Polo wrote his book he got recognition for his harsh travels.
