First Universities

Period: Jan 1, 1795 to Dec 31, 1795

First state-supported Universities sprang up in the South, beginning with North Carolina in 1795.

University of VA

Period: Jan 1, 1819 to Dec 1, 1819

University of Virginia was founded by Thomas Jefferson. Was called his brainchild as he constructed the architecture. Dedicated it to religous and political freedom.

Emma Willard

Period: Jan 1, 1821 to Dec 31, 1821

Emma Willard established The Troy Female Seminary. Was an independent boarding school for young women.

Webster

Period: Jan 1, 1828 to Dec 31, 1828

Yale Educated Noah Webster published Websters dictionary, he worked on for twenty years.

Godey's Lady Book

Period: Jan 1, 1830 to Dec 31, 1830

Book founded for ladies that contained poetry, articles and engravings created by prominent writers and artists. Survived until 1898 and was extremely popular.
