    Defeats Sunni Barru

    After Sunni Ali Ber died, his son and intended
    successor, refused to declare himself a Muslim. Gave one
    of Sunni Ali Ber's generals, Muhammad Ture, a reason to think this succesion was not right. General Toure defeated Sunni Baru and ascended to the
    throne in 1493.

    Askia The Great went on an extravagant pilgrimage to Mecca in 1497. HIs purpose for this was to prove his religous crededentials.
