05/05/1840 David Milne Milne suggested that a machine could be invented to measure seismic activity.
Mallet_tiny 03/27/1857 Mallet's Theories Mallet, an Irish engineer and scientist, studied and developed theories about earthquakes. He thought that an earthquake moved outward from a central focal point.
Grove gilbert_tiny 05/04/1872 Grove Gilbert Grove Gilbert discovered that earthquakes usually center around a fault line.
Seismograph_tiny 02/10/1897 First U.S.Seismograph The first seismograph was installed in the U.S, near San Fransisco at the Lick Observatory.
Mercalli_tiny 04/12/1906 The Mercalli Intensity Scale Giuseppe Mercalli was a seismologist who created a device to measure the intensity or likelihood of damage that may be caused by an earthquake.
