02/09/1526	1526	Lucas Vasquez De Allyon hoped to start a colony for spain along the Cape Fear River.
02/09/1540	1540	Hernando De Soto led a large expedition through the southeastern United States.
02/09/1570	1570's	Queen Elizabeth gave Sir Walter Raleigh permissionto start a colony in North America.
02/09/1585	1585	Sir Walter Raleigh sent 110 men to settlke Roanoke island. He chose Ralph Lane to be the governor.
02/09/1587	1587	Colonist led by John White settled Roanoke Island. Then he went back to England for more food and supplies.
02/09/1588	1588	John White got back to England just before th Spanish Armada attacked the country. Because of that he was unable to return to Roanoke Island for 3 years.
