Usa_tiny 01/01/1860 North vs. South Tensions were high between Northern and Southern U.S.A. The South believed in slavery but the North didn't like slavery. The North also helped the runaway slaves from the South get to Canada safely where slavery was not allowed.
Pres._abraham_lincoln_tiny 11/01/1860 New President! Abraham Lincoln was elected president. This scared the southern states because Lincoln was against slavery and their lives depended on slaves. Slaves did all of their work for their masters and the slave-owners did not want to have to do all of the work people have been doing for them for a while.
Sc_flag_tiny 12/20/1860 USA Loses a State! South Carolina was the first state to secede from the nation.
South_usa_tiny 01/01/1861 More States Secede! Throughout January and February of 1861, Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisianna, and Texas seceded from the USA.
