    The Tennis Court Oath

    The Tennis Court Oath was caused by the Third Estate which represented the people being locked out by the First and Second Estate during a meeting. This caused them to assemble in a tennis court, and created an oath to not stop until a new constitution was adopted. This led to the adoption of the Rights of the Man and of the Citizen.
  • First and Second Estates join the Third Estate in the newly formed National Assembly

    This was caused by the declaration of the Third Estate to be the National Assembly and the Tennis Court Oath, both established the authority of the people and foreshadowed radical movement. These events caused Luis to order the clergy and the nobility to join the National Assembly, again reuniting the three estates under one body.

    The Storming of the Bastille

    The Storming of the Bastille was caused by the increase in bread prices and shortage, as well as the preliminarily made Tennis Court Oath. This showed the ability of the people to rise against the monarchy, sparking future revolutionary events.

    This was caused by the Tennis Court Oath as this was the constitution eventually adopted by the Third Estate. It signified a counter monarchical government and defined principled that the revolution fought for.

    The Women's March on Versailles was caused by the shortage and increase in price of bread. The effect was the adoption of the Rights of Man and Citizen by the French king.

    The execution of Louis XVI was caused by the perception of Luis to being a traitor to the revolutionary cause after associations with foreign powers and an attempt to flee France. This caused the end of the Bourbon monarchy and established a Republic of France.

    The cause of the Reign of Terror was the beheading of the monarch leading to France becoming a Republic causing the installation of the Committee of Public Safety who executed many people, causing terror in France. This caused a centralization of power and counter revolutionary movements to end the Reign of Terror.

    Napoleon is declared First Consul

    This was caused by the Reign of Terror, which the French people wanted to end making them desire stability again. Napoleon took advantage of this and declared himself First Consul of the consulate, leading to his dictatorship.

    Napoleon is declared Emperor

    This was caused by the preliminary declaration of Napoleon as first consul, as it enabled him to consolidate power making the transition from consulate to emperor smooth and a seemingly natural next step. This in turn caused the creation of a meritocracy and the increasingly enacted napoleonic code.

    Battle of Trafalgar

    This was caused by Napoleons expansionist policies after he was declared emperor. He desired Great Britain to be inferior to France, whom he and Spain met at a Naval battle. The consequence of this was the display of britain's naval superiority.

    The continental system was caused by Napoleons desire to decrease Britain's superiority, and he sought to weaken them by stopping their trade with France, France's allies, and occupied territory. It led to various wars weakening France, and did not have its desired effect on Britain.

    Napoleon is defeated in Russia

    This was caused by Napoleon's invasion of Russia due to their lack of participation in the Continental System, followed by Russia's scorched earth policy that they used when they retreated. This led Napoleon's troops to retreat during the winter when they arrived at Moscow, deeply draining France's resources.

    Napoleon is exiled to Elba

    Napoleon's exile was caused by his recent losses, particularly his successful campaign into Russia. The coalition captured Paris and forced Napoleon to abdicate the throne. The consequence of this was the restoration of the monarchy in France and the occupation of the allies, as well as Napoleon's later regaining to power.
  • Napoleon is defeated at Waterloo

    Napoleon is defeated at Waterloo

    Napoleon's defeat at Waterloo was caused by the hasty reconciliation of the French Army after Napoleon's escape from Elba. He lost due to poor military decisions leading to Napoleon being re-exiled to St. Helen.
  • Napoleon is exiled to St. Helena

    Napoleon is exiled to St. Helena

    Napoleon's exile was caused by his defeat by the allies at Waterloo after his escape from his exile at Elba, where he returned to France and re-gained control. In St. Helena, Napoleon did not escape and eventually died in St. Helena.
