God's Promise to Abraham

2166 BCE

God promised Abraham that he would have as many descendants as the stars in the sky. He also told them that he would be with them and they would have land for the rest of their lives. This is important because God promised Abraham and God doesn't lie. It also matters because all of Abraham's children and their children will be blessed forever.

Joseph sold into slavery

1728 BCE

Joseph's brothers sold him into slavery because they were jealous of him. He was purchased by Potiphar who was a powerful man that worked under Pharoah. No matter what happened to Joseph, he trusted God. God used him in a serious way.

God parted the red sea

1446 BCE

The Israelites ran away from slavery so the Egyptians surrounded the Israelites. Then God parted the red sea so the Israelites could get away. It's important because God showed that he was with his people.

the passover

1446 BCE

Passover is when the Israelites got out of Egypt in the night to escape slavery. The angel of death passed over the homes of the people that put lambs blood on their door frame. These were the Israelites. We still celebrate a passover meal to remember this important event.

The ten plagues and exodus

1446 BCE

God sent ten plagues for Moses to lead others out of Egypt so they could escape slavery. God sent them to tell Pharoah that he has to let the Hebrews worship him. This is important because it helped his peaple to be free

The Ten Commandments

1445 BCE

The Ten Commandments were given to Moses on a Mountain called Mount Sinai for him to share with the people. They were rules that God wanted him to share so that the people would be better. This was important because the people would now have guidelines of what God wanted them to do or not do.

Wandering in the Wilderness

1445 BCE

The Israelites wandered in the wilderness because they were being evil and their faith was weak. They were not worshiping God, but they were worshiping a golden calf and many other idols. They did not trust God. This is significant because God wanted them to trust him and made them wait to enter the Promised land until they were better.

Settling in Canaan

1406 BCE

After 40 years of wandering in the desert Joshua led the Israelites into Canaan. Canaan was the promised land which was promised to Abraham. This is important because God fulfilled his promise to Abraham.

The Story of Gideon

1100 BCE

Gideon was a military leader and an angel came to him to tell him that God wants him to fight a battle. Gideon was scared because he only had 300 people. Gideon won the battle against the Midianites who had many more men. The significance of this is that Gideon won the battle because he had God on his side.

The Story of Samson

1085 BCE

Sampson was a judge in the Old Testament of the Bible. He was very strong because God gave him the gift of strength. He did not use his strength for God, he relied on himself. He made many bad choices and only repented to God when he lost his strength. He only had strength because of his long hair. In the end of his life, he had victory over the Philistines and died. This story is important because it teaches us that we should rely on God and not ourselves or others.
