    Happens about 2 weeks after the first day of their last menstrual period.

    Takes about 24 hours for a sperm cell to fertilize an egg.
    Occurs during the part of a woman’s menstrual cycle called ovulation.
    During conception sperm fertilizes the egg in the fallopian tubes
  • 1st Month (1st trimester) 4 weeks

    Size of a grain of rice and by the end of the first month of pregnancy, baby is around 6-7mm (1/4 inch) long. Heart and other organs also are starting to form, eyes and ears start to develop, and small buds eventually become arms.

    Is now a fetus and the size of a raspberry, is about 2.54cm (1 inch) long, weighs about 9.45g (1/3 ounce). Eyes, nose, mouth, and ears are growing on the outside. The tiny buds grow into arms and legs. The neural tube is also formed.

    Is about 2.5–3 inches long and weigh about 1 ounce by the end of the third month.The arms, hands, fingers, feet and toes are fully formed. Fingernails and toenails are beginning to develop and the external ears are formed.

    Baby is 6-1/2 to 7 inches long and weighs about 6 to 7 ounces. The fingers and toes are defined. Eyelids, eyebrows, eyelashes, nails and hair are formed. Teeth and bones also become denser. The fetus can suck his or her thumb, yawn, stretch and make faces.

    Baby grows rapidly. By the end of the month the baby is about 10 inches long and weighs 1/2 to 1 pound. The finger and toe prints are also visible. Fetus’s skin is reddish in color, wrinkled and veins are visible through skin.

    Still grows rapidly, By the end of the sixth month, the baby is about 12 inches long and weighs 1.5–2 pounds. Their skin is still reddish in color, wrinkled, and veins are visible through skin. Baby's finger and toe prints are visible, and the eyelids begin to part and the eyes open.

    By end of the seventh month of pregnancy the baby is about 36 cm (14 inches) long and weighs from about 900 - 1800g (two to four pounds). Fat begins to show on the baby, hearing is fully developed, The fetus continues to mature and develop body fat. The fetus changes position frequently and responds to stimuli, including sound, pain and light. The amniotic fluid also begins to go away.

    Baby is 46cm (18 inches) long and weighs about 2.27 kg (5 pounds). The fetus can see and hear, and most internal systems are well developed, but the lungs may still be immature. The brain is also developing rapidly.

    The fetus is about 17 to 19 inches long and weighs from 5 ½ pounds to 6 ½ pounds. The lungs are close to being fully developed. The fetus can blink, close the eyes, turn the head, and respond to sounds, light and touch.

    The baby is around 7.5 lb (3.5 kg), is fully developed. The skin may be a dark to red color and the baby’s hands and feet may stay a bluish color for a few days.
