    Native Americans told their stories by way of mouth. They told myths, epics, songs, and chants. Storytellers were highly regarded by Native Americas. Their stories usually told a moral lesson and forcused on the natural world.

    Coyote Finishes His Work
    The story is an Indian myth about a coyote who is sent to Earth to make and help the indians because the Old Man asked him to. He protects them and teaches them to hunt, plant, speak, make a shelter, and how to dress. He is also a trickster who accidentally gets people killed. In the end Coyote finishes his work and leaves Earth to go live in the home the Old Man has given him.
  • The Sky Tree

    The Sky Tree
    The Sky Tree was a myth about a dying chief who tells his wife to cut down the sky tree that feeds all life, so he can have the healing fruit at the top. She cuts down the tree but it falls through the ground; so she jumps after it. The animals in the water down below put a bunch of soft dirt on the back of the turtle, who saw them falling first. The wife and sky tree lands on the dirt and the sky tree takes root. The myth is a about how you should think things through.

    Puritans came to America to escape religious prosecution in 1620 and landed at Plymouth, Massachusetts. They valued self-reliance and industriousness. The only literature they had were Bibles and diaries that were mostly about God.

    Louisiana Purchase
    The United States bought the Lousisiana purchase from France in 1803. President Thomas Jefferson bought the land from Napoleon without going through Congress because he was afraid France would withdraw the offer. The purchase nearly doubled America's land and allowed people to move into the west.

    The Legend of sleepy Hollow
    A romantic Gothic written by Washington Irving. The story features a headless horsemen, supposedly the ghost of a soldier who lost his head in the American Revolution. The story is about Ichabod Crane and a man named Brom Bones who were both trying to marry a rich girl named Katrina Van Tassel. Ichabod gets killed one night by the Headless horse man and Brom Bones gets to marry the girl. The headless horse man might have actually been Brom bones in disguise.

    Monroe Doctrine declared by US President James Monroe. The doctine stated that European nations were to no make anymore efforts to colonize or interfere with North or South American lands. If this happened it would be view as an ct of agression towards the USA. In return America would stay out of all European affairs.

    written by Edger Allen Poe. A depressed guy hears knock at his window and door. He eventually finds out it's a raven. The guy askes a lot of questions and the raven always answers "nevermore."

    The Civil War ended in 1965. The South had seceded because President Abraham Lincoln was elected and they thought he was gonig to end slavery. After the North won Writers started to be more realistic and not as emotional and romantic as they used to be because they didn't think that accurately described the horrors of the war.

    "Chicago" by Carl Sandburg
    The poem was about a guy describing how horrible Chicago is from just looking at it. The city hashungry people on the streets, shootings, and women selling themselves, but the city is also the most alive and rescourcef ul city you will ever see. When people sneer at the narrator's city he sneers back at them. This poem is considered to be Modernism.

    The war lasted from 28 July 1914 until 11 November 1918.The war started when arch duke Ferdinand of Astria-Hungary was killed in Serbia. This caused Austria-Hungary and all of its allies to fight Seriba and all of it's allies. So the Central Powers, Germany, Austia-Hungary,The Ottoman Empire, and Bulgaria, fought the Allied Powers, Serbia, UK, France, Russia, and eventually America. In the end The Allied Powers won.

    This poem was written by Robert Frost. The poem was about a stone wall that falls apart after a while and ever spring the two neighbors come together to fix the wall. The narrator questions why they even build the wall because need a wall. The other neighbor just keeps repeating his father's saying "Good fences make good neighbors. The narrator thinks they should get rid of old traditions and come up with their own way of doing things. This poem is considered to be Modernism, not realism.

    Great Gatsby
    The Great Gatsby was written by F. Scott Fitzgerald. The book was about a rich man, Jay Gatsby, who wanted to get back the girl he loved even though she's already married. The story is told through Gatsby's neighbor, Nick Carraway, who becomes Gatsby's only friend and helps Gatsby be reintroduced to the girl he loves. This story is considered to be realism rather than Modernism
  • Of Mice and Men

    Of Mice and Men
    Was written by John Steinbeck. It was about two magrant ranchers. Lennie, the strong but dumb one gets in trouble with the law because of his love for soft thing. George, the smart but uneducated one tries to protect Lennie, but eventually has to shoot him for his own good when Lennie ends up accidently killing someone. This work is considered to be realism, or regionalism, rather than Modernism.

    The war lasted form 1939 to 1943. The war started when Germany invaded Poland. During the war the Axis Powers, Germany, Italy, and Japan, fought the Allied Powers, the UK, france(defeated early on), Russia(eventually), and the USA(eventually). During the war many Jewish people were killed in Axis power consentration camps. In the end Italy was defeated, the Germany, and then finally Japan.

    The war was from 1 November 1955 to 30 April 1975. The war was fought because America wanted to stop the spread of communist in the world. Russia had spread communist all over so America tried to spread democracy. Vietnam was split in half so that one side could be communist and the other democratic. In the end American troops pulled out without winning the war because of lack of support in America. Americans didn't feel like the war had anything to do with them.
