02 / Premium features

Account-level privacy

Timelines can be seen and edited by all your account members. Premium account holders can make timeline projects only editable by themselves, hiding them from their other account members in the process.

Embedding timelines

Your timeline needs to be published to be embeddable.

When viewing or editing your timeline:

  1. Tap or click the triple dot icon in your timeline header.
  2. Tap or click the "Share" option.
  3. Tap or click the "Embed" tab to display the embed code.

You can also customize the embed code by tapping or clicking the "Customize your code" when viewing the embed tab.

We don't enforce a limit on the number of embedded views you can have.

Customizing timeline colors

Our Pro plan allows you to customize the color scheme of timelines when embedded on another web page.

You can change your color scheme by tapping or clicking the "Customize your code" button when embedding. For embedding instructions, see the timeline embedding section.

Adding members

The easiest way to add people is to use group sign up codes. After creating a group, you will see the sign up code appear on the group members screen. You can give this code to people you would like to add to your account and they can enter the code at the top of the plans page to register.

You can also add and remove individual people from the "People" tab.

Go to your "People" tab and select the number of members you would like to create. After doing so, select the users you would like to activate using the checkbox and click "print activation links". You will be taken to a page that will allow you to print their unique account activation links.

Removing members

Go to your "People" tab and select the user you would like to remove using the checkbox. Tap or click "Delete" to remove the user. This will delete the user as well as all their timelines and any other data. This action is not un-doable.

Giving others access to your projects

You can share access to your projects in a number of ways:

  • With your other account members:
    • Just select "Account members" under the "Editable by" section of your timeline project and your other account members will be able to see and edit it.
  • With another user not in your account:
    1. From your timeline edit page, click the "share" link in the timeline menu.
    2. Click "Share with a user" and enter their Timetoast username.
  • With members of a group:
    1. Create a group, or be invited to one.
    2. From your timeline edit page, tap or click the triple dot icon, then select "share".
    3. Tap or click "Share with a group" and choose the group you would like to share it with.

You can also choose the level of sharing access by granting viewer, editor or admin access.

Note: Previously granted permissions can be revoked form the "share" panel too. Just click the "See current permissions" link.

Ad free

Premium account owners/members won't see any ads when they are signed in.

03 / Timelines

Publishing timelines

Published timelines are listed on the site and all site visitors can view them. They can be indexed by search engines.

Draft timelines are not listed on the site.

You can publish timelines directly from your timeline dashboard page or the timeline edit page.

  • From your dashboard: Tap or click the timeline title, then move the slider from draft to published.
  • From the timeline edit page: Tap or click the triple dot icon and move the slider from draft to published

Printing timelines

To view the print-friendly version of the timeline, tap or click the triple dot icon in the timeline header and select "Print".

Timeline limits

You can create as many published timelines as you want. The number of unpublished timelines depends on the type of plan you are on.

Year-only dates

Month and day fields are optional, so you can just fill in the year when editing timeline items.

Dates before 600 CE are year-only.

BCE/BC era

You can create events with BCE/BC era years, just check the checkbox next to the date input.

Character limits

Titles are limited to 255 characters and description are limited to 500 characters.

You can see how many characters you have left below the text field.

Images

We support most standard image formats such as .jpg, .png and .gif as well as many others. We use standard image processing software to try and accept as many image formats as possible.

When you upload an image to Timetoast, we also create a number of smaller image sizes, such as cropped square-shaped thumbnails. Thus, images uploaded in portrait orientation will miss the top and bottom portion when cropped to a square. Images uploaded in a landscape orientation will miss the left and right portions of the image when displayed as a square. For this reason, we recommend choosing images where the main focus of the image lies close to the middle.

Content errors

There is no need to contact us about errors as we don't have editorial control of the timeline content itself.

All the timelines on the site are created by our members.

04 / Your account

Confirmation emails

Some email addresses have strict spam filters, especially email accounts associated with educational institutions. Please check your spam folder first, but you can also request that we resend a confirmation email.

Trouble signing in

First, make sure that you have activated your account properly. You should have received a signup confirmation email when you registered. Note: Premium accounts are confirmed automatically.

The confirmation email contains a link that you need to click to activate your account. If you can't find the email, try looking in your junk-mail box.

If your account is already activated/confirmed, you can use the forgot password page to request a password reset email. Fill in the email you used to sign up and you will receive a password reset link by email.

Upgrading and downgrading

You can upgrade or downgrade your account at any time from the Subscription section (available from: Account › Subscription › Change plan).

Closing your account

You can close your account at any time from the Subscription section (available from: Account › Subscription › Close your account). Closing your account will remove all your data from the site, including any additional user accounts you may have created with your premium account. Closing your account will also cancel your subscription, after which you will no longer be billed.

If you email or message us requesting your account to be closed, we may not be able to respond to your request before your next invoice is due. This could potentially result in unwanted charges. Because of this, we kindly request that you close your own account with the functionality we provide.

Disabled accounts

To combat spam on the site, we automatically disable accounts with suspicious content. Unfortunately this can sometimes lead to some accounts being erroneously disabled.

If your account has been automatically disabled, and you believe this to be in error, you can contact us to re-enable your account. Please provide us with the email address or username you used to sign in.

05 / Subscriptions & Billing

30-day money back guarantee

Timetoast Premium Accounts include a 30-day money back guarantee for all new accounts. If you are dissatisfied with the premium account service for any reason, you can receive a full refund if you cancel your premium account or downgrade within 30 days of account creation. Please contact us by email with the subject line: "Refund Request" if you believe you are eligble for a refund.

Depending on your bank, it will take 5-10 days for your refund to be processed and the funds to appear back in your account.

Please note: If you cancel or downgrade after the first 30 day term has passed, you are no longer eligible for a refund. If you plan on requesting a refund, please make sure that you closed or downgraded your account within the 30-day term or we will be unable to reimburse you. Please see the upgrading and downgrading section for more information.

Recurring charge

All premium Timetoast subscriptions are billed monthly or yearly, depending on which billing cycle you choose.

Charge timings

We charge you on the same day of each billing cycle that your subscription was originally created on. For instance, if you started a monthly subscription on the 20th, you will be charged on the 20th of each month.

If the date does not occur every billing cycle (e.g., you subscribed on the 31st, but the next month only has 30 days), then we will simply charge you on the last day of the month.

Downloading invoices

You can view and download all your invoices from your "Subscription" page. (Available from: Account › Subscription › View invoices).

Cancelling

Subscriptions can be cancelled at any time

To cancel your premium subscription, simply downgrade your account to a free plan or close your account completely. See the upgrading and downgrading section and the closing account section for more information.

Switching plan

You can switch plan at any time.

If your new plan has the same billing cycle, we immediately create a new line item for the remaining portion of the current billing period at the new plan rate. At the next scheduled billing, you will be charged for the line item and the full charge for the upcoming period, less the account balance.

If your new plan has a different billing cycle, for instance you switch from monthly to yearly billing, your new billing period begins immediately and you will be charged for the first period, less the account balance.

If the account balance amount is larger than the amount due, you will not be charged anything, and the account balance is carried over to future billing periods, until it's spent down.

If you downgrade your account in the middle of a billing cycle, you will immediately be downgraded and will forfeit the remaining duration of your premium account. If you change your mind, and do not wish to forfeit the remaing duration of your premium account, please contact us to reactivate your subscription.

Please note that you may be eligble for a refund under our 30-day money back guarantee, please see the 30-day money back guarantee section for more information.
