Triple alliance_tiny 05/20/1882 Triple Alliance forms The Triple Alliance is formed between Germany, Italy and Austria-Hungary.
Germany-flag_tiny 02/01/1890 Germany's alliance with Russia expires Wilhelm II neglected to continue his alliance with Russia so it expired. This was a big mistake for Russia because soon they will join the forth-coming triple Entente, germany's enemys.

220px-franz_ferdinand_tiny 06/28/1914 Assassination of Franz Ferdinand at Sarajevo, Bosnia Heir to the Austria-Hungary throne was murdered that day by 19 year old Gavrilo Princip. He also shot Ferdinand's wife Sophie and their unborn child. His assassination is the start of WWI.

Following the assassination, Austria Hungary gave Serbia a severe ultimatum, then Serbia refused to allow Austrian officials to run an investigation in Serbia.

When the British passenger ship Lusitania was sunk and 1,198 people were left dead. 128 of them were U.S. citizens. The American public was outraged. President Wilson sent a strong protest to Germany. But after two further attacks they stopped. However, they returned to implementing unrestricted submarine warfare. They knew it might lead to war with the U.S.

225px-zimmermann_telegram_tiny 02/01/1917 Zimmerman Telegram This was the last straw before U.S. declared war on Germany. In the telegram it said that Germany would help "reconquer" the land it had lost to the United States if Mexico would ally itself with Germany.

220px-leninportrait_tiny 03/01/1918 Russia's involovement ends for WWI When Russia withdrawed from WWI, Vladimir Lenin wanted to form a truce with Germany. In March 1918, Germany and Russia signed the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk, which ended the war between the two contries.
3093849_tiny 07/01/1918 Second Battle of Marne The Allies and Germans met once again at the Second Battle of the Marne in July 1918. The allies led the attack and smashed through German lines. The Central Powres were falling apart and the Ottoman Turks surrendered. It was the last German problem and ended in an Allied victory.
