09/01/1939	Germany invaded Poland	The Second World War began when Germany invaded Poland,France and Britain wanted to defend Poland.
09/03/1939	France and Britain against Germany	French and British goverments declared war on Germany but they could do very little to stop Germany ´s victory in Poland. Suddenly Polish resistance had collapsed.
09/17/1939	Soviet Forces took action	Soviet forces crossed the polish frontier and took control of part of eastern Poland.This was part of the deal Hitler struck with Stalin.Hitler´s methods ( overwhelming force in short time to crush the enemy) were known as Blitzkrieg.
04/01/1940	France and Britain started mining Norwegian waters	The French and British started mining Norwegian waters at the same time Germany invaded Norway and Denmark.The fall of Finland,Norway and Denmark led to a political crisis in France and Britain
05/01/1940	President Churchill	In Britain Winston Churchill came to power in May.
05/10/1940	Hitler attacked the Low countries and France.	After months of waiting, Hitler struck west. The Netherlands, Belgium and France were invaded and rapidly defeated by German foreces.At this point it seemed that Hitler had virtually won the war.Only Britain remainedto fight GERMANY. 06/01/1940	Germany´s allie: Mussolini	Sensing that the war was nearly over Mussolini joined forces with Germany.
08/01/1940	Battle in Britain	Having defeated France, Hitler prepared for a German invasion in Britain.The German airforce, the Luftwaffe set out to win control of the air over Britain, this was the first stage of Hitler´s plan.German planes bombed military sites,factories and London.
06/22/1941	Hitler turns east: The Soviet Union	Germany invaded the Soviet Onuion in an operation n known to the German leaders as Barbarossa.Stalin was taken by surprise. German forces penetrated deep inside the Soviet Union capturing key cities. The picture shows Soviet prisoners under German Guard.
10/15/1941	Things go wrong for Hitler	Over 3 million Soviet troops had been captured and Germans were moving to Moscow. At this point the campaign began to go wrong for Hitler.German troops were not equipped for the freezing Russian winter because Hitler thought that war would be over in three months.
12/07/1941	Attack on Pearl harbor	The japanese went to war against USA with a surprise attack on the US naval base of Perl Harbor. Usa didn´t know that Japan had been planning the attack for months.USA joined forces with the USSR to fight Germany,Japan and Italy. 06/01/1942	USA stopped Japan	In june, USA stopped the tide of japanese conquest at the battle of midway Island.After Midway, American forces began a slow process of capturinf the islands of the Pacific from the japanese.
10/01/1942	Germany defeated Africa	The German army in north Africa was defeated by British forces at the Battle of El Alamein.
05/01/1943	No Germans in Africa	Germans and Italians had been completely driven out of north Africa.
06/01/1944	Taking Rome	Rome was taking in June 1944 but it was not until 1945 that the whole of Italy was under British and American control.
06/06/1944	`D Day´	France was invaded on 6 Junemthis day was known as `D Day´. By 25 August the British and American forces had reached Paris.

09/07/1944	German retreat	The Germans were in retreat across the Soviet Union.
10/01/1944	USA took revange	The Americans invaded the Philippines. Over 170,000 Japanese soldiers were killed before the capital Manila was taken.
12/01/1944	German counter-attack	The Germans launched a counter-attack in the Ardennes are of Belgium. After some early success the German attack was turned back
05/08/1945	German forces surrender	But the war continued against Japan.
08/01/1945	Atomic Bombs in Japan	Two atomic bombs were dropped on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
08/14/1945	The World War second finished	The devastations caused by the bombs forced the Japanese government to surrender. The Second World War was over.

11/30/1939 to 10/13/1940	Winter War	"Winter War" was a war between Finland and the URSS in the small Baltic state of Finland. The Finnish army fought with great skill and ferocity but in the end the URSS defeated her small neighbour.
09/07/1941 to 01/31/1943	Germany attack the USSR.	They concentred their forces in the south and tried to capture the southern city of Stalingrad.The Soviet forces were launched a counter in November and in the end of January 1943 the German army at Stalingrad surrendered. This proved that the Red army could beat the German army.
