10/04/1957	Sputnik 1	Sputnik 1 was launched by the Russians. It is the first artificial spacecraft on Earth's orbit. It started the space war with United States
01/31/1958	Explorer 1	Explorer 1 was the first American satellite in Earth's orbit. It was the first to record the Van Allen radiation belt. It was launched after Sputnik 1 and Sputnik 2.
07/29/1958	NASA is created	Nasa also known as the National Aeronautics and Space Administration was made. It operates all space missions and launches to space.
08/16/1960	Discoverer 14 is launched.	A satelitte launcehd by the United States.Soming from a spacecraft that reattaching it in mid air.
04/12/1961	First Russian Man in Space.	Yuri Gagarin was not only the first Russian man in space, but also the first man in Space. This mad ehte Russia ahead of America in the Space Race.
05/05/1961	First American in Space	The United States sent Alan Shepard in Space. He was sent on a small capsule named Freedom 7.
06/16/1963	First Woman in Space	Valentina Tereshkova was the first woman in space along with being the first Russian woman to be out in space. This put the Soviet Union ahead of the United States again.
03/18/1965	First Man Out in Space	Alexei Leonov was the first man out in space as well as the first Russian man out in space. He left the space craft for 12 minutes and 9 seconds. His space suit became inflated and so he had to let out some air to get back in. He barely made it back.
06/03/1965	First American Out in Space	Ed White was the first American man to walk out in space. He was on the mission named Gemini 4 and stayed out in space for 23 minutes.
02/03/1966	Luna 9	Luna 9 was the first spacecraft to have a soft luna landing. It was a Russian spacecraft.
04/03/1966	Luna 10	Made after Luna 9, Luna 10 is an improved version of Luna 9. It was the first spacecraft to orbit the moon.
04/23/1967	Soyuz 1	Soyuz 1 was the first of its kind and series. It held Vladmir Komarov. As it returned to Earth, it crashed and kill Vladmir Komarov. It was the first space flight death.
12/21/1968	Apollo 8	Apollo 8 was the first manned spacecraft to orbit the moon. The three men in the crew were Frank Borman, James Lovell, and William Anders. It took them 20 hours to make 10 orbits around the moon. Also during their trip to the moon, it was during Christmas. On Christmas Eve, they read the first 10 verses of Genesis while broadcasting. So, they got sued by Madalyn Murray O'hair.
07/06/1969	Apollo 11	It was the first flightthat took men to the moon. It was done by the United States, which made the United States ahead of the Soviet Union in the space race. It's crew consisted of Neil Armstrong, Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin and Michael Collins.
12/19/1972	Return of Apollo 17	It was the most recent trip to the moon made by the United States. There has not been any moon landings since.
