Miguel_lopez_de_legazpi_conquistadores_tiny 04/27/1565 First Spanish settlement in Philippines by Spanish conquester Miguel López de Legazpi Spanish conquester Miguel López de Legazpi established one of the first European settlements in the East Indies and the Pacific Islands. Miguel López de Legazpi arrived on Philippine Cebu and later established the colony on April 27th which was the beginning of a three century Spanish rule over the Philippines.
J0409424_tiny 03/18/1570 Miguel López de Legazpi and the spread of Christianity Miguel López de Legazpi conquered a Muslim settlement in the Philippines and began to spread Christianity through the Philippines. Missionaries were sent around the Philippines to spread the religion.
Dagohoy_tiny 01/24/1744 The Dagohoy Rebellion This is a significant event in history of the Spanish era of Philippines at Bohol. This was the result of the forced labor and the unfair treatment of the Spanish. Francisco Dagohoy defeated the Spanish forces and created his own government in the mountains with more than 3,000 followers that later trippled.

Pule was a crusader who sacrificed himself for religious freedom and fought so that everyone can pray freely to their Gods without any government persecution.

The books Rizal published angered many Spanish colonists because of its mocking attitude towards the higher classes. As a patriot Rizal continued to publish more works about the Spanish colonists and advocated the reform of the Philippines.
Bonifacio-big_tiny 08/30/1896 The Philippine Revolution The two year long Philippine Revolution began on August 30th when 800 Katipurenos raided the Spanish arsenal. Later on 1898 the independece of the Common Wealth of the Philippines was established, however shortly after that the Americans came and thus started the Philippine-American war.

This time period of 1935 to 1946 was when the Philippines was part of the commonwealth of the United States. The National Defense Act was signed on December 21st, allowing the Philippines to have their own army.

People power_tiny 01/01/1986 People Power "Presidential elections see Marcos opposed by Aquino's widow, Corazon. Marcos declares himself the winner, but Aquino disputes the result. There are mass protests, dubbed "people power", in Manila. The military withdraws its support for Marcos, who flees to Hawaii. The new government claims Marcos had looted billions of dollars during his time in power."
Joseph estrada_tiny 12/07/2000 Joseph Estrada Violates Constitution Presidant Joseph Estrada was accused bribery, graft and corruption, betrayal of public trust, and culpable violation of the Constitution. His impeachment trial was started on the 7th of December, 2000 and aborted by January 16th, 2001. This lead to the EDSA revolution later that year, and, needless to say, the downfall of Estrada.

Massacre_tiny 11/23/2009 Maguindanano Massacre Victims on their way to file a certificate of candidacy for the vice mayor of Buluan (Mangudadatu) were kidnapped and brutally killed. 58 people were killed, including Mangudadatu's wife, friends, lawyers, and other relatives. The victims relatives blame the rival clan for the attack.
