01/01/1731	First magazine published	Technology improved to allow monthly printing. General interest in these magazines showed that more people could now read, however many still couldn't
01/01/1788	First newspaper published in the UK	Technology now allows daily printing. People can find out what happened yesterday nationally. Creates supporters for printing.
01/01/1876	First telephone invented (for businesses only)	People can communicate in real time over long distances in commerce
01/01/1912	Home phones become available	Home telephones become available to those who can afford one. This allows the public to communicate.
01/01/1922	First BBC Radio Broadcast	Government owned broadcasting - first mass media transmittied directly to peoples homes. Millions of people buy radios.
01/01/1936	BBC Broadcast Television in the UK	Very powerful media - able to share opinions. New role of TV News Reporters. BBC inform, educate and entertain. 24 million used today
01/01/1962	Internet is invented	Internet invented by the US military so that if one base was destroyed, the others could still communicate.
01/01/1984	Cable TV widely available in the UK	This allows for the transmission of hundreds of channels. Also lays groundwork for broadband.
01/01/1990	Satellite in the UK	Very high technology developments allows for even more channels to be broadcast, live and direct from scene of events - wars, riots and so on. 10,000,000 people subscribe to satellite.
01/01/1992	First text message was sent	The most popular of instant communication was invented. 1 billion texts were sent per week.
01/01/1993	First public available world wide web	This allowed people to search for information and buy things via the internet
01/01/1995	First mobile phone in the UK becomes available	The first mobile phones in the UK, costing around £2,000 became available. They were mainly used for business and had a talk time limit of 30 minutes. They weighed around 1kg.
01/01/2001	3G Mobile Available	Allows recording and films on your mobile. Anyone can become a reporter - able to record images and upload them for good or bad use
01/01/2002	Web 2.0 Invented	By now the internet has become about social networking - MySpace and Bebo
01/01/2009	4G Mobile Available	High speed internet is now available for access to anyone with a smartphone mobile phone.
