448px-david_almond_photograph[1]_tiny 05/15/1951 Born Is a British children's writer who has written several novels, each one to critical acclaim. Almond was born and raised in Felling and Newcastle in post-industrial North East England and educated at the University of East Anglia. When he was young, he found his love of writing when some short stories of his were published in a local magazine.
200px-skellig_cover[1]_tiny 08/11/1999 Skellig Is a novel. for which Almond was awarded the Carnegie Medal in 1998 and also the Whitbread Children's Book of the Year Award. In 2007 it was selected by judges of the CILIP Carnegie Medal for children's literature as one of the ten most important children's novels of the past 70 years.
