Elt200802041204367803211_tiny 07/21/1798 Virginia & Kentucky Resolutions written These paper were written to discuss the punishment of unconstitutional acts.
194211-main_full_tiny 12/15/1814 Hartford Convention meets during War of 182 Delegates were sent from New Hampshire, Massachussetts, Conneticut, Rhode Island, and Vermont went to Hartford Conneticut where they met in secrecy. They met there to discuss how to ask the Federal Government for money and financial aid to help New England's trade economy. This convention made the delegates look suspicious.
300px-usa_territorial_growth_1820_alt_tiny 02/17/1820 Missouri Compromise An agreement passed between the people supporting slavery and the people against slavery. It marked territories of where people owned slaves and where people didn't own any. It divided up the unowned territories and the Unmarked territory. It allowed Missouri to become a slave state.
Mcormick_tiny 05/17/1828 Tariff of Abominations Passed A Tariff that was made to protect industry in the Northern States. It was labeled the Tariff of Abominations because it effected the Southern States. It protected the Northern industries because they were being run out of business by low priced imported goods.

South Carolina's Ordinance of Nullification stated that the Tariff of abominations of 1828 was unconstitutional. The nation suffered an economic downfall during the 1820's and this affected South Carolina.
Gradualabolition_tiny 08/28/1833 Abolition of Slavery Act An act created by the British Parliament abolishing slavery in all of the British colonies. The United States at the time was still British colonies. It gave slaves complete freedom. Britian had paied compensation to the people that owned slaves.
200px-texas_declaration_of_independence_tiny 03/02/1836 Texas Declares Independence from Mexico The Texas Declaration of Independence created the final break away of the Republic of Texas from Mexico during the Texas revolution. Texas wanted independence from Mexico every since the begining of slavery. Result of the war was that they became a free and independent state. They continued on to join the United States.

James was a democrat and was very popular in the Texas region because he was favoring the annexation of Texas. He wasn't well known until his presidency.
04/25/1846 The Mexican War This was the First American Intervention because the United States was in a war against themselves. This was a conflict between the U.S and Mexico during 1849 to 1848. America invaided New Mexico, the California Republic, and parts of Northern Mexico for rights of the territories.
1130972307lg_tiny 09/09/1850 California Enters the Union In February of 1848, the Mexican War ha ended and mexico gave up the Southwest including where present day California stands. It entered as a free state.
Slavery_tiny 09/18/1850 Fugitive Slave Law Enacted This act was passed by the United States Congress as a part of the Missouri Compromise of 1850. This was one of the most controversal acts during the compromise. It declared that all run-away slaves are to be returned back to their masters even if they had escaped to a free state with no room for arguement.
220px-stetson's_uncle_tom's_cabin_-_eliza_tiny 03/20/1852 Publication of Uncle Tom's Cabin An anti-slavery novel written by Harriet Beecher Stowe. It set the stage for the civil war. It was one of the best-selling novels of the 19th century. It opened the public eye to slavery and stereo types against blacks. It made the Southern states angry, but in the Northern states, it made their reasoning for being against slavery stronger.
00035329_tiny 05/30/1854 Kansas- Nebraska Act Passed An act that created the territories and borders of Kansas and Nebraska. It opened up areas for settlement. Popular Sovereignty decided if the new territories would be allowed slavery or not and be free. They wanted to open up more farmland to better the economy. Because of Popular Sovereignty, this created a civil conflict because anti and pro slavery citizens moved into these territories and tried to fight for control of them,
Border_ruffians_tiny 05/21/1856 Border Ruffians Attack Lawrence The "Border Ruffians" were men that were for slavery. The crossed the border into the Kansas Nebraska territory. On the morning of May 21st, an army of 800 men went to the town of Lawrence in Kansas and began to destroy it. Since California had been released as a free state, people who were affected went to Kansas to try to make it become a slave state.
Charles-sumner-002_tiny 05/22/1856 Charles Summer Attacked Charles Sumner was a famous Republican from the United States. He was brutally attacked by Preson Brooks who was a congressman from South Carolina. He had made an anti-slavery speech and used language that was offensive to the southern people due to his abolitionist belifs. Brooks attacked him when he got the perfect chance. He beat him with a cane. Sumner didn't fully recover from this attack.
Pottawatomiemassacre_tiny 05/24/1856 Pottawatomie Creek Massacre As a reaction to the Border Ruffians attacking Lawrence, John Brown and a group of firey abolitionists killed 5 settelers North of Pottawatomie. This was just one of the many civil war-like incidents that happened in Kansas before the Civil war had happened.These fearful battles were known as "Bleeding Kansas" becaus e of the bloodshed in this territory.
Dredscott_tiny 03/06/1857 the Dred Scott Decision Announced Dred Scott sued his master's wife for his freedom. During the coarse of his life, Scott was sold to different people and moved around to different states, free and not free. At one point he was moved into Louisiana which was a free state and he believed since it was free that it meant he was free from slavery. "Once free, always free" was his motto. He never did win his freedom because of the motto "Once a slave, always a slave."
Lecompton constitution hall_tiny 09/07/1857 Lecompton Constitution passed The Lecompton Constitution, drafted for Kansas Territory, was written by the supporters of slavery. It allowed slavery and excluded free blacks from gaining citizenship in Kansas. It also allowed only male citizens to vote. There were three separate votes on the Lecompton Constitution: December 21, 1857, January 4, 1858, and August 2, 1858. In the final vote, residents of Kansas Territory excluded the Lecompton Constitution.
Lincdougfirst2_tiny 08/21/1858 Lincolin- Douglass Debates A series of debates between Lincoln and Douglass who were both in the presidential election for the United States. They were held in Ottowa, Freeport, Jonesboro, Charleston, Galesburg, Alton, and Quincy. They should Lincoln what he faced when he won the election. The main issue that was discussed during the debates was slavery. Douglass prefered to leav the issue alone while Lincolin wanted it abolished all togther.
John_brown_at_harper_s_ferry__public_domain__tiny 10/16/1859 Raid at Harper's Ferry An attempt made by John Brown to start an armed slave revolt. His raid was defeated by the U.S. Marines very quickly. Brown had asked two fellow abolitionists named Harriet Tubman and Frederick Douglass to join him. Neither of them actually did because they didn't want to cause conflict.

It was created by the people that wanted to avoid the issues over slavery and keep the peace throughout the states. They used the constitution as their backbone to create rules and goals for themselves. They created it because they did not believe in recognizing anything else but the Constitution and its articles.

Many people blame the Southern Democrats for Abraham Lincoln making it into office because he was an abolitionist. The split of the party would possibly lead to a new Republican Party to form.
Hd_wilmotd_tiny 08/08/1864 The Wilmot Proviso This could have completely abolished slavery from any territory that the Americans had captured during the Mexican War for Independence. Devid Wilmot introduced this idea to the United States House of Representatives. It said that there was no such idea that said people could be enslaved. It was passed in the house, but it did not make it in the Senate. The South had a greater Representation than the North and there were more slave states.
