11/09/1931 | Alfonso's order | liberals and socialists called for a republican form of government. In 1931, no longer able to control his country, Alfonso ordered new parliamentary elections. The Republican candidates won, and the king was forced into exile. |

The Americans were volunteers who formed a little known, but well-respected legion called the Abraham Lincoln Brigade. |
