  • North Korean troops enter the DMZ at the Joint Security Area

    Several hundred armed North Korean troops enter the DMZ at the Joint Security Area in violation of the Korean armistice agreement
  • North Korea sinks South Korea ship

    North Korea sinks the South Korean ship DANGO, north of the northern line limit (North Korea - South Korea sea border), killing 39 sailors.
  • The Axe murder incident

    An attempt of trim a tree in the DMZ ends with 2 U.S. soldiers killed and injuries another 4 U.S. soldiers and 5 South Korean soldiers.
  • The Blue House Raid

    31 North Korean commando's cross the DMZ on a mission to kill the South Korean President Park Chung-hee by entering the Blue House (official residence of the President of South Korea). 26 South Korean are killed and 66 wounded. 3 American soldiers are killed and 3 wounded.
  • Capture of the USS Pueblo

    The United States Naval Ship the USS Pueblo is boarded and captured by North Korean forces in the Sea of Japan. 1 sailor is killed and 83 are captured. The sailors are eventually released on December 23, 1968 but the ship remains in North Korean possession.

    A U.S. reconnaissance plane is shot down 90 miles east of the North Korea coast, killing 31.

    A series of clashed between North and South Korean vessels take place in the Yellow Sea near the Northern Line Limit.

    Six South Korean sailors are killed and 1 South Korean vessel is sunk.
