First X-Ray Taken
Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen took an X-ray photograph of his wife's hand. It clearly revealed her wedding ring and her bones.
Artificial Heart Developed
O.S. Gibbs developed an artificial heart while working at Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia. It consisted of two bellows within a round brass container.

Arne Larsson received the first implanted pacemaker.
CAT Scan Invented
The CAT scan was invented by Godfrey Hounsfield and Allan Cormack in 1972. High-resolution images are taken which improve the diagnostic capabilities.

Raymond V. Damadian invented the MRI. The first images showed a clear image of the heart, lungs and chest wall.
First Robot Assisted Surgery
The robot was developed by a team led by Dr. James McEwen and Geof Auchinlek, in collaboration with orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Brian Day. It was used for the first time in Vancouver, BC, Canada.
